I know that all children have the potential to fulfill their dreams and they deserve the very best leadership and guidance to help them along the way. I believe that the best thing you can do for a child is give them the chance to be successful. The confidence they develop now will stay with them for the rest of their lives. My mission in life is to empower my students!
My classroom is a place where students feel safe and confident. Although my classroom is a very nurturing environment, our respect agreement is strictly enforced. As a teacher, I ensure that my students are neither too challenged nor too bored by the work they do in class. Finding work that is "just right" for each student is the key to encouraging cognitive growth. Therefore, it is important that I continuously assess my students and modify my lessons to accommodate their needs.
I make sure that my lessons are comprised of many different teaching modalities to appeal to different learning styles. This helps to fill in any existing gaps caused by differences in cultural and linguistic backgrounds. By using a variety of teaching modalities I engage all of my students and keep them stimulated.
One of the most important indicators of a child's success in school is the involvement of his or her parents. Having parents involved in a child's education is critical because they will reinforce learning and good study habits at home, encourage hard work, and instill the value of education in the child. It is very important to me that parents understand that we are working together as a team to give their child the very best education possible. I establish open lines of communication with the parents of my students through regular parent-teacher conferences, a weekly homework and test score report, volunteer opportunities, and a monthly newsletter. Furthermore, parents will always be free to contact me with any questions or concerns for their children.
As I grow as an educator my philosophy of teaching is an ever-changing mantra, but the unvarying element is my desire to work with children. I strive to provide them with an excellent learning environment, a purposeful curriculum, and well-rounded instruction.
